The Westchester Refresh
Westchester Neighborhood, Omaha, Nebraska · 2024
The clients had been collecting for forty years. What they did not have was a design plan to make their collections cohesive and fresh. This is what we came to do.
Antique shop receipts from Copenhagen, paintings carried home on planes from Spain, the accumulated evidence of a globe-trotting life. We began in the vestibule with mirrored walls creating a sense of infinity upon arrival.
The stair hall set the home's tone in a single gesture: bold Albert Hadley tree-of-life wallpaper in deep navy, a drum-shaped lantern, a tufted sofa in cobalt velvet. The library was lacquered floor to ceiling, a finish that treats books as objects, which is the only correct approach to books. The dining room received Rose Tarlow textile drenching at walls and windows and a collection of antique Southeast Asian lacquerware displayed as a continuous installation.
In the family room, a monumental geometric painting became the room's reason for existing, and everything else, the blue armchairs, the printed ottoman, the terra cotta tile, referenced this through-line. This is a home that argues for the proposition that more, properly edited, becomes exactly enough.
